Certification Process

Becoming a Gorski-CENAPS Certified Specialist

To become a credentialed Gorski-CENAPS Certified Specialist, professionals must complete the competency certification process associated with the credential. Gorski-CENAPS currently offers 3 Credentials that align with our Training Programs.

Credentials Offered:

ACRPS - Advanced Clinical Relapse Prevention Specialist

CRPS - Certified Relapse Prevention Specialist

CDMS - Certified Denial Management Specialist

About the Process

The first step in becoming a Gorski-CENAPS Certified Specialist is to attend one of our Training Programs that provide the classroom hours for certification. Attendance in a Gorski-CENAPS Training Program does not require participants to become a Certified Specialist, nor does attendance at the training certify a participant as a Gorski-CENAPS Certified Specialist. After attending the Training Program, participants must then complete the corresponding Competency Certification Portfolio. Submitted portfolios will be reviewed by a Gorski-CENAPS Senior Instructor who has been trained to review and evaluate your competency certification portfolio.  As competency certification is an additional service, there is a $150 review fee due at the time of submission.

Benefits of Competency Certification

Completing competency certification is a rigorous and demanding task. Why invest the time, energy, and resources?

Credentialed Gorski-CENAPS Specialists report:

  • Improved confidence as a clinician
  • Improved skills at applying methods that help clients avoid relapse
  • Improved treatment outcomes

The Competency Certification Portfolio is a powerful tool for demonstrating the quality of clinical work and advanced levels of skill, precision, and professionalism in working with relapse prone clients. For those who submit a portfolio for formal review and evaluation, upon certification they have documentation of advanced skills helping those recovering from substance abuse avoid re-occurrence.

Certification also admits clinicians to our referral network of Certified Relapse Prevention Specialists. If desired, those actively certified are added to the CENAPS website (both name and service location) to assist those looking for help.
